It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Vincent Scala, who passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 10th. He was 91 years old. Al was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Scala and the loving father of five children: Albert Scala Jr., William Scala, Laury Donegan, Robert Scala, and Janine Mendez. He is survived by his two sisters Isabella Lane and Rose Todd. He was a proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Al is a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy. He was vibrant, social, and a friend to everyone. He was an avid jokester with a knack for storytelling. Of Italian descent, he was gifted in the kitchen. He was also a self-proclaimed taste testing expert — the man loved a free Costco sample (or two). He enjoyed traveling to sunny Florida and Maryland beaches. His beach sandwiches were second to none. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and chancing his luck at the casinos. He was a best friend to squirrels but never to chipmunks, and he loved watching deer roam in his yard. Above all, he was a family man who was loyal and true to those close to him. His smile was contagious and his laugh was always warm. He is extremely loved and will be greatly missed. If you find yourself with some vodka and a twist of lemon, raise your glass for Al. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Valentine Church with a burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with Full Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made to Light of Life Ministries, 10 E. North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Arrangements handled privately by David J. Henney Funeral Home. www.davidhenneyfuneralhome.com
