E. Eugene "Gene" Hershberger

E. Eugene "Gene" Hershberger, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Bethel Park, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, age 89, beloved husband of the late Susan (Leibfreid), dear father of Laura Gaspar (Brian) and Jill Nolan (Ken), cherished "Papa" to Zachary Edwards (Hannah), Logan Edwards (Jordan), Ainsley Nolan and Jackson Nolan, also survived by a sister, Linda Vensel (Ted) and predeceased by sister Doris Wertz. Known as "Hersh" to family and many friends, he was born and raised in Bedford, PA and graduated from Penn State University. He was employed in the engineering department at US Steel for many years where he served as president of the Andrew Carnegie Athletic Association. The later years of his career were with Schneider Engineers and the Port Authority of Allegheny County, where he helped draft the specifications for Pittsburgh's light rail transit system. He was a member of the Elks, Bethel Park's Gold Card Club, and numerous golf and bowling leagues over the years. Gene was a faithful member of Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park for over 60 years and served as Deacon and member of the church council. Friends will be received Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the David J. Henney Funeral Home, 6364 Library Road (RT 88), Library. A Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Ruthfred Lutheran Church, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
