Frederick John Heilman, affectionately known as Fritz, was born on July 3, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, and lived in Pennsylvania for 43 years. He embarked on his earthly journey with a strong spirit, ultimately becoming the beloved patriarch of a nurturing family. After a commendable tenure of 47 years, he retired from Columbia Gas, where his dedication and hard work created a legacy of reliability and trust.
Fritz was a proud US Army Veteran, honorably discharged after serving his country with valor. His education began at South High School followed by courses at Franklin University, forming the basis of a life filled with learning and growth. A heart brimming with love, he was known for his ornery yet steadfast personality, being the oldest of four siblings. His protective nature extended over his family, to whom he offered guidance and steadfast support. He was a devoted husband, a caring big brother, a loving dad, a doting grandpa, and an adoring great grandpa.
A firm man of strong faith, Fritz earned the respect of many who sought his wise counsel. Known for his best advice, he was a constant source of encouragement, always lending a helpful hand, and showering those around him with love unconditionally.
His interests included spending peaceful mornings reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee in hand and tending to his cherished garden. These hobbies provided him with a sanctuary and moments of solace, which he often shared with his grandchildren as he joyfully babysat them, creating cherished memories that will remain in their hearts forever.
Fritz’s pride was evident in his family, who brought him immense joy and fulfillment. He is survived by his beloved daughter Betta Heilman; son Steve (Sherri) Heilman; daughter Kristina (Michael) Gualazzi; daughter Trisha (Bob Scabilloni) Heilman; and sister Lorna Norman. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lindsay (Philip) LaGamba, Zachary (Katelyn) Heilman, David (Zach Dearth) Herman, Chelsea (Tommy) Gates, and Nicholas Gualazzi, as well as his great-grandchildren, Griffin LaGamba, Sawyer LaGamba, Charlotte Heilman, Perry Heilman, Evie Gates, Sadie Gates, and Ezra Gates. Along with a sister-in-law Grace (Bob) Druggan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He now joins those who preceded him in death, including his father, Frederick V. Heilman; mother, Mary M Ury; wife, Barbara Heilman; sister, Betta LuAnn Heilman; and brother, Marvin Heilman.
Fritz passed away on July 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering family values. His indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we celebrate his life, we remember him as a man whose love was as profound as his faith and a heart that welcomed all. Rest in peace, dear Fritz. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Fritz will be laid to rest in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Pennsylvania with a private family graveside service.
