Joyce M. (Heilman) Alderson

Joyce M. (Heilman) Alderson, blessed by God for 99 years, died peacefully in Mt. Lebanon , PA on May 27, 2025, during a very brief hospitalization.  She was born in Bellevue, OH on December 9, 1925, to the late Leonard T. Heilman and Mabel (Cook) Heilman. Faith and family were always important to her,  sustaining her through adversity and hardship. 

Joyce and her husband, Bill, were married in 1954 and raised their three children in Illinois, New York and Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.  Their retirement years were spent in Atlanta, GA and Waverly, OH.  Joyce had a proud career as a homemaker, wife and mother.   She was a lifelong Lutheran and enjoyed worship, fellowship Bible study and personal devotions wherever she lived. Her unique handwritten cards and letters kept her in touch with a large extended family across many states. Those who loved her and knew her will fondly remember her red lipstick, denim jumpers and skirts, half full coffee mug, shared dish of chocolates, witty sayings, real butter, fabulous fudge, cookie recipes, miniature shoe collection, handcrafted gifts, committing to memory ABC Bible verses, and so much more.  

Joyce is survived by her children, Jill (Roger) Kurtz, Jeen (Rick) Harper, and Jack (Karen) Alderson; grandchildren Amanda (Joseph) Murdy, Stephanie Kurtz,  Emily (Kaleb) Williams, Cara (Mark) Vines, and Adam (Mallory) Alderson; nine great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William S. (Bill) Alderson; brothers, Dr. Charles L. Heilman, Dr. Robert A. Heilman, Mr. William E. (Bill) Heilman; twin sister, Jean M. Heilman; and grandson Sgt. Russell A. Kurtz.  

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Carol Drive, McMurray, PA. 15317, at 11:00 a.m.  The family will greet visitors starting at 10:00 a.m. in the church narthex, sharing keepsakes and photo memories from Joyce’s life.  Graveside interment will follow the funeral service at Bethel Cemetery, 2999 Bethel Church Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
