Obituary

Kathleen K. Frank, of Bethel Park, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the age of 81. The oldest of three siblings, Kathleen Kelly was born in Castle Shannon, PA to Hugh and Alice Kelly, and remained in the Pittsburgh area her entire life. She attended St. Anne’s Catholic grade school and St. Francis Academy. Education was important to her and she continued taking classes while raising her family and graduated college from the University of California, PA. She worked for Shell Oil as a young professional before marrying the love of her life, Charles “Chick” Frank; a man she met through mutual friends and was immediately attracted to because of his kind and generous nature.

Together they had three children; Kelly (Tom Kehl), Charles “Chuck” (Laura), and Kerry (Jim Gunshenan). Kathleen was an active participant in their lives by encouraging involvement in music, athletics, and every organization available. She was a Girl Scout leader, Band Booster Club board member, and swim team booster to name a few. Her life, first and foremost, was dedicated to her family.

She pursued her own interests as an avid bridge player, participating in multiple bridge groups, playing tennis regularly, and golf; where on TWO occasions achieved the ever elusive “hole-in-one!” Kathy volunteered for Contact Pittsburgh for twenty-three years, eventually as a Senior Worker, where she helped countless people throughout the area.

Kathy and Chick traveled extensively, domestically and around the globe, with special memories of trips to Europe, Asia, and Australia; but the vacations she held most dear were the trips to Hilton Head Island with her family.

Kathy enjoyed being Mimi to eleven grandchildren: Kathleen “Katie”, Connor, and Kevin Kehl; Charles “CJ,” Connie, and Shannon Frank; Sean Fergus “Fergie,” Shane Finnegan “Finn,” Spencer “Frankie”, Shea, and Sloane Gunshenan. Mimi and Pappy traveled to Dallas, Chicago, and St. Michaels to share in their lives, spoiling all their grandkids with love and affection and, of course, their favorite treats.

Always stylishly dressed, Kathy was an avid shopper with amazing stamina and passion for sales. Kathy and Chick’s home was always open for family and friends to gather and enjoy time together; and was always festively decorated for each and every holiday.

She loved spending time in Bonita Springs, FL where special bonds were built with her siblings Hugh (Jean) Kelly and Maureen (Tom) Larkin, who also wintered there. Kathy and Chuck celebrated 60 wonderful years together on May 6th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

Kathy died peacefully in the presence of family on May 18th, 2021.She will be tremendously missed and always loved.
