Marlene McGrady Obituary

Marlene Clara McGrady (Rhodes), 87, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2020 surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer disease. Marlene was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the only child of the late Gertrude and Charles Rhodes. She was the beloved wife of John E. McGrady, Jr. for 65 years; loving mother of Doreen Stratemeier (Paul), Kathleen Willard (Frank), John E. McGrady, III (Kathryn), Michael McGrady and the late Colleen McGrady; grandmother of Todd, Michael, Andrew, Paul, Madeline, Ryan, Jennifer, Sean, Megan, Caitlin, Sarah, Grace and Frank; great-grandmother of Aubree, Ethan and Conner; and cousin of the late Judy McGall (Bill).

Marlene was a graduate of St. Augustine’s High School in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh and worked as an underwriter for Hartford Insurance Company before starting a family. She was a kind, thoughtful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed assisting her children with their school projects, sharing home cooked meals with friends and family, and going on family vacations. Marlene also enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing, singing at church and participating in card club and bingo with her friends.

She lived a long and fruitful life surrounded by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates from St. Augustine as well as her neighbor Margaret Pudlo. The family would like to thank her caregivers at the Pines of Mt. Lebanon, the Sheridan of Bethel Park, Visiting Angles (Alice & Karen), Amedisys Hospice (Brook, Sage & Amy) and close family friends Megan and Pattie for her recent care at home.

Due to current state mandates regarding COVID-19, there will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, 144 DePaul Center Road, Greensburg, PA 15601, scsh.org<http://scsh.org>. Arrangements handled privately by David J.
