Richard Teitz Obituary

Richard Joseph Teitz “Dick” of Sun City, Bluffton, SC, formerly of Moon Township, PA, peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the age of 89.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gundling of Bluffton, SC and predeceased by his loving and devoted spouse of 46 years, Mary (Martin) Teitz; loving father of Jennifer Wallace (Dennis), Shelley Lucci (Paul), Gretchen Greco, and Richard Teitz (Tracy); devoted grandfather of Brooke, Blake, Bryant, Reece, Jillian, Austin, Grant, Nicholas, Blair, Harrison and Elliott; cherished great grandfather of Grayson, Abrielle, Cameran, Brayden, and Madison; dear brother of Martha Owens.
Dick attended Central Catholic High School enlisting in the Navy immediately following his graduation and served during the Korean Conflict.   Shortly after arriving home from his duties in the Navy, he met his future wife, Mary, and they were married on November 17, 1956.   He was a proud graduate of Duquesne University, attending night classes while working for the American Bridge Division of United States Steel.  After his retirement from American Bridge, Dick worked for the United States Postal Service.  He had a walking route in Ambridge, PA and enjoyed the interactions with the residents he met delivering the mail each day.
While residing in Moon Township, Dick served as a Township Supervisor and was actively involved in St. Margaret Mary Parish serving as an usher at the 9:30 Sunday morning mass.
Dick was an avid baseball fan enjoying the professional play of the Pirates as much as he enjoyed attending the little league games of his son and grandsons.  He had a hearty laugh that could fill a room with joy and will be greatly missed.
Upon his retirement from the USPS, Dick and Mary relocated to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina where they immediately felt at home.   Both became active at their new parish, St. Gregory the Great in Bluffton, SC, with Dick once again serving as an usher.   He became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing a round of horseshoes with his buddies.  Dick especially enjoyed when his children and grandchildren came to visit always taking them for a special ride in his bright red golf cart telling anyone who would listen that “It doesn’t get any better than this”.  He was very proud of his home and extremely happy in Hilton Head.  After his dear wife Mary passed away, he enjoyed the new friendship he made with Dorothy (Dottie) Gundling for many years and they married in 2013.
Dick’s family would like to thank the staff at the Sheridan in Bethel Park and Commonwealth Hospice for the loving care he received.
