Robert E. Shaffer, Jr., of South Park, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026. Beloved husband for 56 years of Katherine, loving father of Brian G., Stephen G. and Darrin G., son of the late Robert E. Shaffer, Sr. and the late Marguerite Tucker, brother of Beverly Stamps, grandfather of Brittany, Gabriella, Kyliee, Christian and Emma and great-grandfather of Riley.
Robert graduated from Auburn University in June 1965 and immediately started working as an Accounting Trainee at the United States Steel (USS) Sheet and Tin Plant located in Gary Indiana, which was the largest steel mill in the world at the time and the place where his three sons would eventually be born. He continued to rise through the ranks receiving numerous promotions along the way, culminating with the position of General Supervisor of Cost and General Accounting in July 1971.
Robert was transferred to the USS Headquarters located in Pittsburgh, PA to join the Corporate Staff in July 1975, where he continued to receive additional promotions in various Accounting Management roles. He retired in July 1999, while working in a senior managerial position with the USX Realty Development Division.
Robert was very generous throughout his life while supporting many charities (both local and national) and volunteered often at St. Joan of Arc Church. His kindness towards others and those in need will remain his lasting legacy.
Robert is survived by his sister, his three children, 5 grandchildren , one great grandchild and his primary caregiver, Jacqueline Kyle.
Visitation Friday 2-6 p.m. at the David J. Henney Funeral Home, 6364 Library Road (RT 88), Library. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church.
