Terry Callen Obituary

Terry John Callen, also known as Yrret Nellac, The Czar or Moe, left this world on August 26, 2024 at the age of 73. Terry was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Rita Mae Curall & Leo Thomas Callen on May 2, 1951. Terry was a proud 1969 graduate of The Ursuline High School, where he was well acquainted with the nuns and disciplinary staff through his tenure. After graduation, Terry opened Vantronics with his brother Tim on the Northside of Youngstown where he learned his affinity for tinkering, fixing, and repairing. This ultimately led him to his over 30-year career at The Hobart Company, where he arrived to work 45 minutes early everyday to establish himself as the most punctual employee in company history. Terry met his wife, Ann, through the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of America Program where he charmed her with his ever-present mustache and their shared enjoyment of Ann's good cooking, inappropriate jokes, and a good Bed & Breakfast. They shared their love for their daughter, Sarah, who was Terry's biggest joy and greatest confidant. His most recent joy was witnessing Sarah’s marriage to Marc Wem, a man he knew would cherish & love her with a shared devotion. Terry was a father to an extended family of neighbors & friends due to his affinity and love for "the kids". Terry’s presence filled a room, not only because of his boisterous voice and inability to whisper, but because of his pure sweetness. He was shameless in himself and took immense pride in his enjoyment of the simplicity of life: a good coffee, his cat, folk music, sitting on his porch, old western TV shows, neighborhood bonfires, his daughter and son-in-law’s visits, and football - most notably his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Terry will be remembered by many on the golf course & at late night poker games but his biggest joy was his family. Terry had no better time than with his brothers and sisters: Tim (Linda), Nancy (Bill), Sue (Gene) and Ted as well as his many nieces and nephews and in-laws. They shared many memories of holidays, picnics, spaghetti dinners, and vacations that he recalled with the biggest smile on his face. His family will miss that mustache covered smile most warmly and fondly. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" - The Beatles. Terry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rita Mae and Leo Thomas Callen, and his brothers Tim & Tom Callen.

There will be no funeral as per Terry's request. His family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in his honor. Arrangements handled by David J. Henney Funeral Home, LIbrary.
