William Vetter Obituary

William Howard Vetter, 92
November 25, 1932 – May 31, 2025

William Howard Vetter passed away at the age of 92 on May 31, 2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. William was born in the Sheraden neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the son of the late Carl and Mary Vetter. He proudly served in the Army during his younger years, showing dedication and commitment to his country. After his military service, William went on to work at Equitable Gas Company, where he retired after 37 years of hard work and service. In his later years, he enjoyed a second career as a school bus driver, a role in which he touched the lives of many children and their families for decades. A man of unparalleled work ethic, William instilled in his family the values of perseverance, integrity and dedication. Through his example, he taught them that hard work and commitment were the keys to success.

William is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne who he will be reunited with in heaven, as well as his granddaughter Michelle Wine. He is survived by his four children: Michael (Lina) Vetter, Melissa (Michael) Wine, Kimberly (Joseph) Niedzwicki and Suzanne (Robert) Liposky; his grandchildren: Jennifer (Richard) Colwell, Erin (Luca) Nowozeniuk, Bryan (Johanna) Liposky, Denielle (Alex) Gase, Martine DeSantis (James Taylor), Lauren (Dan McNeill) Liposky, Ashley (Edberg) Niedzwicki, Jacob Liposky and Joseph Niedzwicki; and great-grandchildren: Matthew, Sophia, Salvatore, Brady, Valentino and Marchesa; and his dear sister Bonnie (Ed) Shrenker, also many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his love of family and his strong bonds with those closest to him.

William had a zest for life that touched everything he did. From his love for dining at his favorite restaurants to his passion for decorating and his cherished John Deere collection, he embraced each interest with enthusiasm. His sharp mind and quick wit were matched only by his sense of humor and fondness for sarcasm, always ready with a joke or a clever remark. A stickler for punctuality, he lived by the mantra, “If you’re not 15 minutes early, you’re late.” William’s presence was magnetic—his attention to detail, his lively spirit, and his ability to make everything more vibrant left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was very involved in the Catholic Church including creating and leading fundraisers which included St. Basil’s carnival, and was a Eucharistic Minister. William was a Past 4th Degree Knight in the Kinghts of Columbus. In his later years he led his Rosary Club at his residence. One of the family’s fondest traditions was gathering on Christmas Eve each year to listen to him read *The Night Before Christmas*, a memory that will forever echo in our hearts.
